Information on PDA version download

News.gov.hk provides a PDA version of news stories through an Internet connection. You can also download the Chinese and English stories through PC synchronisation with your PDA.

Synchronisation Process:

For Pocket PC and Palm clients, synchronise your handheld with AvantGo* Hotsync /ActiveSync software to download the Chinese and English stories.

What is AvantGo?

-  AvantGo provides the software for both your desktop PC and PDA, which provides access to news.gov.hk's online news PDA channel. For more information, visit the AvantGo website.

Basic PDA requirements:

-  Any version of Palm or Windows CE PDA.

-  A computer with an Internet connections and Hotsync/ActiveSync ability.

-  An active AvantGo account and AvantGo software installed.

-  Install proper software or plug-in to read Chinese Characters.

-  At least 2MB free memory.

Add news.gov.hk news channel:

-  Use "AvantGo Login Path" to access; enter "username" and "password" and click "Go".

-  Create news.gov.hk news channel under "Create Custom Channels" web page, you can change "Title", but not "Location". Press "view" button to verify the "news.gov.hk" link.

-  Click "Save Channel" at the bottom left corner of the "Create Custom Channels" web page.

-  To verify the channel creation, select "Manage your subscriptions" web page where you can see the newly created channel.

-  Then, you can download news.gov.hk news when you synchronise it with your PC.

-  Next time you log in to AvantGo, the content will be updated when you synchronise it with your PC.

Add channel fails?

-  You must install AvantGo software.

-  Your PC has to be connected to the Internet. Generally, your PDA will be supplied with a docking cradle connecting it to your PC, be it a laptop or a desktop machine. Consult your PDA manual for further information.

-  Make sure to have enough memory on your PDA.

-  If AvantGo's or Kornhill's server is busy, you may try it later.
