(1)
Status description in trademark online search
With effect from 21 October 2008, the status description in our trademark online search system has been revised to provide clearer status descriptions of trademark applications for registration.
(2)
Use of recycled paper
In 2007, the Registries of Intellectual Property Department (IPD) used a total of 157,077 sheets of ordinary paper in replying to applicants/agents.
With effect from 1 October 2008, save for certificates of trade marks, patents, or registered designs and certified true copies, the Registries will use recycled paper instead of ordinary paper in replying to applicants/agents.
The recycled paper that the Registries will be using has met the standard of ISO 9706, according to which ¡°the papers tested are likely to undergo little or no change in properties that influence readability and handling in libraries, archives and other protected environments during long-term storage¡±.
Thank you for your support to IPD in protecting the environment.
(3) Top e-Filers¡¯ Award 2008
The Intellectual Property Department¡¯s e-filing services have been operating for four years, bringing a real time e-culture to intellectual property registration services.
The Top e-Filers¡¯ Awards (awards) have been presented to our e-filers since 2005. Starting from 2007, the criteria for the awards has been changed from a cumulative basis to an annual basis, i.e. the total number of e-transactions filed with us in a calendar year determines the top 15 awards of that year. An additional award was also introduced in that five awards are presented to e-filers who have the highest volume of e-applications using Trade Mark Form T2, Patents Form P4, Patents Form P6 and Designs Form D1 in a calendar year.
IPD shall continue to adopt the current criteria in 2008. League tables showing the top 15 e-filers who file the highest number of all e-transactions and the top five e-filers who have the highest volume of e-filing of Trade Mark Form T2, Patents Form P4, Patents Form P6 and Designs Form D1 will be posted with monthly update.
(Source : IPD¡¯s letter dated 5 March 2008 to the Law Society of Hong Kong, Asian Patent Attorneys Association Hong Kong Group and the Hong Kong Institute of Trade Mark Practitioners).
The following league tables are based on the volume of e-filing recorded in IPD¡¯s designated information system since 1 January 2008 to 31 October 2008.
