Policy Statement On Occupational Safety And Health
Objective
The
Intellectual Property Department seeks to achieve a high
standard of work safety and efficiency. We are firmly committed
to ensuring an environment which is safe and without risk
to the health of all our staff at work as well as visiting
members of the public on our premises.
General
Statement
1. To achieve
the goal of safety and health at work, the Department will implement
a departmental health and safety management system to:
(a) provide
and maintain working environments, equipment and systems of work
which are safe and without risk to health;
(b)
take all reasonable steps to eliminate safety and health hazards
in the Department's operation, and where this is not reasonably
practicable, to devise procedures and guidelines to reduce such
hazards to an acceptable level. Unsafe conditions and practices
once identified, should be rectified as soon as possible;
(c)
provide information, instruction, training and supervision for
staff as required to achieve our objective, with particular attention
to work involving computers;
(d)
pay special attention and provide advice to colleagues with special
needs, such as disabled colleagues or female colleagues during
pregnancy; and
(e)
educate and promote health and safety awareness.
2. We expect
all staff to co-operate and participate in the implementation of
the departmental safety and health management system and to assume
responsibility in protecting their own safety and health as well
as those of other staff members. Everyone has a responsibility to
report any potential hazard to the registry heads or the Administration
Unit.
Implementation
3. The implementation
of the departmental safety management system will be monitored by
the Departmental Consultative Committee.
4. To achieve
continuous improvement, we shall regularly review the safety and
health policy, the safety management system and its implementation.
